Kokrajhar(Assam) July 26: Security forces have intensified search operations against the militants in the lower Assam districts, after the arrest of a hardcore cadre of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Saoraigwra faction (NDFB-S) from Kalashi area under Patgaon outpost in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district and recovery of arms & ammunition from his possession .
Based on the lead given by arrested NDFB(S) cadre , Dikum Basumatary and over ground Worker Jibiar Basumatary a joint operation was launched by Kokrajhar district police and 12 Sikh Li Army on Thursday along the Kalashi in North West of Jharbari and multiple ambushes were laid in the thick jungles .
At around 4 am this morning, the ambush party noticed suspicious movement of a NDFB (S) militant . The ambush party challenged the suspected militant , but he tried to run away but was finally overpowered and apprehended.
The cadre has been identified as Deepak Brahma , a hardcore NDFB(S) cadre of 39th batch.
One Chinese hand grenade, one intex multimedia mobile phone with three Vodafone SIM cards were recovered from him.
Based on his confession , the joint operation team conducted further search operations in the area and recovered one US made 5.56mm M-16 Rifle along with with one magazine,and 11 rounds of ammunitation .
Brahma was involved in extortion, recruitment of new cadres and other subversive activities in Kokrajhar district. He was assigned to carry out disruptive activities in run up to the Independence Day celebrations in the district .
