New Delhi,June 22: India’s Gaurav Solanki (52Kg), Amit Pangal and Dheeraj confirmed themselves of medals as they ensured a semifinal berth at the ongoing prestigious Chemistry Cup in Halle, Germany.
Gold Medalists at the 21st edition of CWG, Gaurav registered a comprehensive 5-0 win over Russia’s Vadim Kudriakov while Amit ensured a similar fate as he defeated Germany’s Christopher Goman with a similar margin late on Wednesday night.
While Dheeraj cruised past German boxer Baryshnik Wladislaw as he posted 5-0 win against the local lad. Amit will face Cuba’s Damian Arce Duarte and the Gaurav will face Ireland’s Conor Quinn in their semifinal bout.
While medal run continued in Mongolia too as India’s Sonia Lather (57Kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) confirmed medals at the Ulaanbaatar Cup while they advanced to the semifinals of the boxing tournament on Thursday.
Silver medallist at the World Championship, Sonia displayed array of punches to unsettle the local favourite Myagmar Gundegmaa and defeated the Mongolian boxer with a unanimous decision (5:0) to make the last-four stage.
Lovlina, Asian Championship Bronze medalist and a gold-medallist at the inaugural India Open earlier this year, also put up a dominating fight against Thailand’s Suchada Panich to win the bout 5-0.
Though the Thai boxer put up a strong defence but lacked accuracy and the boxer from Assam had the winning note on her side whereas experienced Lather accounted a superior show against Gundegmaa with clean and impactful hits.
The other significant win was that of Himanshu Sharma (48Kg) against Chinese Taipei’s Po Wei Tu. With fast pace and accuracy of punches, the Punjab boxer did not leave any scope for his opponent to fight back.
