Shillong  (Meghalaya ): The President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Meghalaya  and sitting MLA, Sanbor Shullai  has been relived  from the position of  the Party President .

This decision  comes at at a time when media is flooded  with reports that   the popular  leader would be playing an active role during  the Prime Ministers Narendra Modi’s  campaign to the state capital  on Saturday   and also share the stage with the Prime Minister. .

Though the NCP Central and state leadership used very mild words in a statement  issued this evening , it is believed  that he has  been  actually  sacked from the position for  anti -party activities.

In a statement , the  Nationalist Congress Party said that Sanbor , has been relived from  the post of the President, NCP, Meghalaya state with immediate effect and  Vijay Raj who was earlier the Vice-President has been appointed as the Working President of Nationalist Congress Party, Meghalaya State.

It is not yet clear if Sanbor would join the BJP  and contest the ensuing assembly polls on a BJP ticket . However , that Sanbor  may shift  to BJP just before the Assembly elections was doing round for months

In a letter issued to the state unit, NCP Secretary SR Kohli said on recommendation of NCP general secretary & incharge of Northeast states – Praful Patel, Sanbor Shullai has been relieved from the post of the president of NCP Meghalaya state unit with immediate effect.

Kohli said “Shullai has been relieved after considering the fact that he will busy in his own constituency and will not  be able to give sufficient time in the forthcoming assembly election in Meghalaya.”

Just a week back ,BJP Meghalaya unit president Shibun Lyngdoh said that  Shullai would be  one of the four MLAs who will be sharing the dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally on his visit to Shillong  on Dec 16.
