Rain woes greet April

Guwahati: April, the month of blooming flowers and chirping birds, wreaked no less havoc in the Indian state of Assam with incessant rains and thunderstorm disrupting normal life in many places on Sunday.
Heavy rains have played spoilsport on country’s largest river festival forcing the organizers to cancel a number of programmes in 21 districts.
Accompanied by hailstorm, heavydown pour in the capital city of Guwahati forced the denizens to shy away from the ongoing  river festival in the afternoon. The low- lying areas in the premier south east Asian city  have already come under the rain waters.
The worst hit places include Karimganj where the rain waters have inundated  a huge portion of the Barak valley town after hailstorm lashed it for three hours.
Around two hundred families have been displaced apart from disrupting surface communication. Electricity and telephone lines remain disrupted and it would take a couple of days to restore .
